Xia is now happily coming to the cage door every morning to visit her old cagemates while I take the babies out. The babies are harder to photograph as they are getting more mobile.
At one week the babies are very active and very noisy when mum comes to feed them, reminding me slightly of the sound of a flock of swifts.
The babies now make a chirping/barking sound when separated from their nestmates. Their ears are not yet opened. I wonder whether they are hearing through their closed ears, or using their whiskers to pick up sound vibrations? Are they listening through unopened ears for replies from the nest, or using the barks as a form of sonar?
